What I Liked Best About Greece
In 2010 we had a week in Athens, a week on Mykonos and a week on Naxos. We enjoyed all for different reasons but the week on Naxos was best.We stayed at Studios Oniro which was really well priced and clean and also located a few minutes walk to beach and town central. A great laid-back island.
What I Liked Least About Greece
The Meltemi wind which blows regularly in the greek islands and is really strong and persistent.
Where I'll Be Sure to Go in Greece Next Time
Naxos. Great working island, a bit less touristy than the likes of Mykonos, and very relaxed.
I packed ...
Cool clothes in July as pretty hot even for an Australian
Where I Went
Athens, Mykonos, Naxos, Santorini and the amazing Delos for the ultimate archeological hit.
How I Did It:
The Greek Island ferries are amazing and very comfortable and fast with no hassles once you work out where your ferry leaves from in Piraeus. We took the daily ferry from Mykonos to Delos which is amazing with an ancient city still partly intact and it is easy to see how the city was laid out. We took a day trip by ferry from Naxos to Santorini which was very pretty but scary bus ride from the port up the cliffs to the towns.
Lessons Learned
- Go to the Islands for most of your holiday. Athens is only for the archeology. The less touristy islands are the most relaxing. Santorini is very pretty but expensive and a bit artificial. We loved Naxos.
