Where I Stayed
Bellevue Appartments, Keramoti, Greece. These clean, new apartments are located in friendly Keramoti, in Northeastern Greece. Keramoti is east of Kavala and north of the island of Thassos. The apartments are only a block away from a huge sandy stretch of beach that seems never-ending. The beach has several beach bars, but also has areas where you can set up your own beach umbrella for the day.
Why I Remember this Greek Hotel
Bellevue Appartments were beautiful, clean, well maintained and the owners were gracious and generous. Julian and Jenny Genov are attentive without being intrusive.
The location was perfect. It's only a very short walk to the beach (2-5 minutes) or you can take a leisurely stroll into town (10-12 minutes) where numerous tavernas and cafes can be found.
We loved watching the ferry come in/go out while drinking a frappe, sunning on the beach enjoying a soda and tost, walking up and down the side streets, buying fruit from the "fruitman", eating Greek salad after Greek salad (yum!).
On Sundays, we'd ride the ferry over to Thassos Island and attend Thassos Christian Fellowship, located in the center of (harbor) town. The service is spoken in English, but translated to Greek as well. We felt instantly at home with the Pastor, Demetris and his wife, Marjo and enjoyed wonderful worship and fellowship with the whole congregation as well.
Advice
- We spent 1 1/2 months with Keramoti as our base during a summer sabbatical. We thought that's all it would be, a base for the sightseeing journeys we'd planned -- to follow in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul (to Thessaloniki, Phillipi, Ephesus, Athens, Corinth, Rome...) but we fell in love with the people, the beaches and the town and were refreshed beyond our imaginations. When our time came to a end, we were sorry to leave.
