Where is Tilos?
Tilos (also spelled Telos) is one of the islands of the Dodecanese, along with Kos. Tilos is located roughly halfway between the big island of Rhodes, and the island of Kos (Cos).

Why You Should go to Tilos:
Looking for a quiet island? This could be it. Covered with almond trees which blossom abundantly in January and February, Tilos has an unspoiled feeling and the islanders are not (yet) overwhelmed with tourists, so their natural hospitality and warm welcomes are renowned.

Tilos is also acting to preserve its natural environment.

Because of a long-standing hunting ban, the island is a birdwatcher's joy. Walkers also enjoy the many pleasant paths on Tilos. Tilos has good beaches, and many of them are tolerating, if not fully accepting, nude sunbathing.

During the late middle ages, the island was under the control of the Knights of St. John; the ruins of seven small fortresses can still be visited.

Nightlife:
There is a tiny and relatively calm nightlife in Livadia, though local tavernas inland offer authentic Greek dancing and music. A jazz bar has been operating in Livadia the past few years, providing another option.

What to See on Tilos:
Tilos has the ruins of seven castles and a couple of picturesque monasteries.

The most recent claim to fame on Tilos is the discovery of a number of ancient skeletons of a species of pygmy elephants which survived on the island until about 3500 bc.

Where to stay on Tilos:
The main village of Livadia offers rooms, and there are more in the official "capital" village of Megalo Choro, located inland. Map of Tilos

What to eat and drink on Tilos:
The food on Tilos is traditional and simple, served at the tavernas. The Blue Sky taverna offers a reportedly excellent stifado (stew).

When to Go to Tilos:
Tilos is beautiful year-round, but for most travelers, it's most enjoyable beginning in late spring and continuing through early autumn. High winds in the winter make sea travel difficult.

How to Get to Tilos:
Ferries operate year-round from Rhodes and Kos, but schedules are limited during the off-season and high winds may cancel service. During May-September, the Tilos Sea Star hydrofoil offers daily service from Rhodes. Tilos is also a popular yachting destination.
