Porto Elounda

For many years, this nine-hole course was the only golf course on Crete, and those hitting the links were grateful for the chance to play on Minoan soil. The course is beautifully situated with a view of the Libyan Sea along the south coast of Crete. But visitors should be aware that many golfers may feel limited by the short hole lengths – the longest is just 140 yards - and inhibited by the nearby hotel buildings which are rarely out of sight.

Registered guests of the Porto Elounda Resort have priority when booking tee times, but others can use the course by special arrangement. Some cruise lines which call at nearby Agios Nikolaos or Heraklion offer golfing opportunities during port calls. These must be arranged at least one week in advance. For visiting players, the course operators also need to know in advance if they will need to provide clubs.

Guests of the Porto Elounda complex of hotels also receive reduced green fees at the Crete Golf Club course located about forty-five minutes away.
