Afandou Golf Club

By deTraci Regula, About.com

Located on the large Greek island of Rhodes, sacred to the sun god Helios, this seaside golf course has been a maintenance challenge due to a tricky water supply. It's at its best in the spring and fall when the fabled sun is less intense.

Golf by the Gulf

Designed by Donald Haradine, the course opened in 1972. The first three holes are along the sea. Player opinion is mixed - some golfers report the course as surprisingly bland, while others recommend it as a particularly fun course to play.

Nearby Attractions on Rhodes Island

Within easy reach are the tourist attractions of the dramatic hilltop temple at Lindos and the Old City of Rhodes, a medieval town that was restored under the Italian Occupation in the early part of the 20th century.

Where to Stay if you Play

The Afandou Golf Club does not maintain any special relationship with a specific hotel, but manager Vassilis Anastasiou points out that the Apollo Beach Hotel located a few minutes away often hosts golfers. The Hilton Rhodes Resort is also nearby.
