Then, I wear my bulkiest shoes onto the plane. I slip out of those and into the sandals. Next, leaving my bulky shoes under the seat in front of me, I rest my feet on top of them. It's amazing how that extra two or three inches of lift makes the seat more comfortable, at least for shorties like me.
You get all the comfort of removing your shoes, but you can still get up and use the toilet on long flights or walk around the cabin without having to put your shoes back on.
By the way, the word "sandal" supposedly comes from "sandalon", a pre-Greek, ancient Minoan word meaning - sandal.
