Get your passport in order. Go apply now; you can get the necessary form and instructions at your local post office if you have not already done so. This official Passport FAQ for U.S. citizens is very helpful. Though U.S. passport processing is said to only take 6-8 weeks, it never hurts to have yours in hand early. Coming up on your renew date? It's best to never travel on a passport with 6 months or less left on it.

Not a U.S. citizen? Your passport processing time may differ. Find out from your local Greek consulate or embassy if you need a visa to enter Greece.

Going to Greece with a friend? If your travel companion doesn't have a passport yet, this can be a great way of gauging how serious they are about your trip.

First time applicant? You'll need an official copy of your birth certificate. This can't be a hospital certificate and it's not the one your Mom had framed or glued into the baby book.

If you've already decided on just what trip or cruise you want to take, check in with the tour operators. There may be an "early bird" special for booking ahead of time. If there isn't, don't be shy. Ask when discounts are most likely to be available. While some will try to sell you right at that moment, most will admit that discounts occur at a particular time.
