The taverna at Pagoneri is a popular end-of-the-day stop for skiers in winter, but the rest of the time, the village is rarely visited. This gives travelers who make the effort to reach Pagoneri a taste of what all of Greece used to be like - friendly villagers who still find photographers a novelty. The village name means "Frozen Water", an apt description of the settlement in winter.
