Aristotle Onassis' Birth and Death:
Aristotle Onassis was born on September 21st, 1906, in Smyrna (Izmir) Turkey to Greek parents. He died on March 15th, 1977, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France.
Aristotle Onassis' Career:
Aristotle Onassis became one of the world's richest shipping magnates with a vast fleet of ships. Prior to this he earned his fortune in the tobacco industry in South America. For his own use, he established Olympic Airways and later gave the airline to the government of Greece as a gift.
Aristotle Onassis' Personal Life:
While Greeks remember him as a great businessman, the world remembers hhim as the lover of Greek opera singer Maria Callas and the unexpected second husband of Jacqueline Kennedy, widow of slain American President John F. Kennedy.
Aristotle Onassis' Children and Grandchild:
From an earlier marriage to Athina Mary Livanos he had two children, Cristina and Alexander. Alexander died in 1973 and Onassis never fully recovered from the blow. Cristina died in 1988, leaving her daughter Athina as sole heir to the Onassis fortune. Currently, the board of directors of the Onassis Foundation is attempting to limit his granddaughter's future influence on the foundation.
