By , About.com Guide

Jul 2 2008
Feel like running in Greece? The Olympus Marathon is held each year in summer and attracts athletes from around the world.

Participants follow a route beginning at the ancient city of Dion. Part of the race is road-based, but the majority of this marathon takes place over unpaved trails on the mountain itself. Runners eventually reach an altitude of 2800 meters before beginning a long downhill ascent.

Entry Fee: 30 Euros

Qualification times: None, but organizers caution this is a very physically demanding race, with fit participants expected to take about 10 hours over the rough course.

Application: Can be completed online (preferred) or at the village of Litochoro before the race.
