Thermae Sylla Hotel

About.com Rating 4

By deTraci Regula, About.com

The Bottom Line
A good value and a good reason to visit one of the most unfairly neglected of Greece's islands - Evia, second in size to Crete, lined with beautiful coves and beaches.
Pros
  • Built on an ancient Roman bathing site
  • Beautiful indoor bathing pool with glass dome
  • Low prices compared to similar experiences elsewhere
Cons
  • The island of Evia (Euboia) is off the beaten track for non-Greek tourists
Description
  • Evia is an island you can drive to, crossing the bridge at Halkida.
  • While Greek-themed treatments dominate, they also offer exotic treatments from around the world.
  • Try a Himalaya Bath, the Oriental Rasul, the Olive Wonder, a Volcano Bath, or "Cleopatra's Bath".
  • Don't want to stay? You can still stop by to enjoy spa treatments.
Guide Review - Thermae Sylla Hotel
Wellness is a hot word these days, and Greece, with a tradition of spa hotels dating back millenia, is well placed to take advantage of it. At Edipsos on the island of Evia, the waters have been conferring allegedly therapeutic benefits for thousands of years.

The Thermae Sylla, founded in 1897, offers an indulgent experience at a reasonable price with its coastal location, new facilities, and good rates for both rooms and spa treatments. Past celebrity visitors have included Aristotle Onassis, Maria Callas, Sir Winston Churchill, Omar Sharif, and Greta Garbo.

More recently, in 2004, Conde Nast Traveler readers named it one of the "World's Top Ten Best Medical/Thermal Spas". Prices, including 14 various treatments, are as low as Euro 649 per person for a five-day stay.
