Island/Coastal Weather: Hot, though can be tempered with breezes; however, sometimes those breezes are the warm meltemis.
Prices: Highest of the year.
Events: Assumption of the Virgin Mary, August 15th. Celebrated everywhere; particularly renowned on Tinos at the church of Panagia Evagelistria. In 2004, the Olympic Games conquers all.
Facilities: It's usually jammed in the islands, especially Aug 1st - Aug 17th. Mainland transit can also be busy as some Greeks travel home for the holiday. Expect lines, waits, crowding. But Athens itself may be a little quieter than in late July.
Budget/Independent travelers: If you can, skip July and August. If you can't, enjoy Northern Greece and choose the less popular islands. Take a peek at the Milos photos linked above to show how crowded that island gets.
