Official US Embassy Announcement
U.S. Citizens in Greece Can Register

By , About.com Guide

From 2003
The Warden of the United States Embassy in Athens has issued an informational sheet regarding US citizens in Greece. While primarily directed at the resident or longer-term traveler, it has information of interest to the tourist as well.

This document is very similar to others issued by US embassies around the world; the cautions it contains apply to US travelers worldwide and are not specific to Greece.

If you are traveling in Greece, and would like to have your presence in Greece documented by the Embassy, you may do so on-line at http://www.usembassy.gr. Please note: This is not required for travelers to Greece. This is a standard recommendation for whenever a US citizen is traveling or living in a foreign country, though it is generally ignored in more peaceful times. The idea is that if a major unexpected event occurs, the embassy can more easily find and account for all of its citizens.
