It's Not A Cruise, It's an Adventure:

Small yacht trips are special experiences. If you're not used to boating, or claustrophobic, the smallness of the cabins can be a turn-off, but if you're open to experiencing Greece in way that is both luxurious and unique, a yacht cruise can be the perfect match. It also gives you great bragging rights back home "When we pulled up in our yacht at that island of __________,"

Peter Sommer Cruise - The Dodecanese:

Peter Sommer Cruises have operated in Greece for the past twenty years. While they offer a variety of cruise options, including an upcoming "Alexander the Great" themed one, I like the looks of their Dodecanese Island cruise because many of these islands are less frequently visited and can be hard to get to on your own. This yacht cruise touches on most of the Dodecanese islands, so if you are an "island collector", this is a great way to go.

Peter Sommer Tours are especially strong in their offerings for the less-visited Dodecanese Islands which is offered periodically. While they offer a number of tour options for the Greek islands, I think the chance to visit almost all of the Dodecanese islands in a two-week period is almost irresistible.

While known for their ship-based cruise tours, Peter Sommer also offers a number of more traditional land-based trips.

Here is a list of their Greek tours. One new offering is "In the Footsteps of Alexander", an intense 20-day trip through Greece which visits key places in Alexander's story of conquest.

While so focused a journey might not be the best choice for a first trip to Greece - Alexander didn't spend much time in Athens or on the busiest Greek islands - it's ideal for those fascinated with Alexander or those who want a much more in-depth historical experience of Greece. And you do get a day and a half in Athens and a visit to the island of Thassos. There is also a border-crossing stop in "The Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia" (F.Y.R.O.M), which takes you to the heart of the controversial modern name dispute on where the borders of Alexander's "Macedonia" really lie.

This trip offers another plus - you can choose to fly in and out of Thessaloniki, firmly rooting you in Northern Greece for this trip. It would also be easy to combine this journey with a visit to Mount Athos, more of the Northern Aegean islands, and even Turkey if you were so inclined.

Prices start from £4,275 - you can convert currencies here.

And yes, there really is a "Peter Sommer" - he started leading tours of Turkey and Greece after completing a 2,000 mile journey on foot tracing Alexander's route through Turkey - which may be why he decided to use yachts on future trips.
