Moved by the plight of animals in Greece, Belgian hiker and Crete resident Ivan van Driessche is walking around the island of Crete seeking sponsors and attention for lost and abandoned animals. The trip begins on March 1st in Malia on the north coast of Crete, and will end there fifty days later on April 20th.

You can join him for a few days or for the whole stretch, covering your own expenses and making a small contribution to "The Haven" animal shelter for each day you walk with him. His proceeds go directly to benefit the Cretan Animal Welfare Group. This group offers medical care, re-homing of abandoned animals, and shelter services to cats, dogs, donkeys, and other beasts. If you find an abandoned or distressed animal during your stay on Crete, they can help.

In exchange for a Euro per kilometer, you get an amazing look at Crete. Ivan is an experienced ecotourism guide who regularly leads groups all over the island. Best of all, you get to enjoy the warm fuzzy feeling of helping the warm and fuzzy.
