Getting Online in Greece
Find your way to the Internet in Greece

Traveling to Greece? More and more, you're taking your computer. While Greek Cybercafes are one way of meeting computer needs, local ISPs and hotels offering easy on-line access are also helpful in smoothing your connectivity in Greece.

Some ISPs offer international services through arrangements with local Greek ISPs, usually by a special dial-up number which will be provided on request. If this option is open to you, verify the prices you will be paying, as this service may not be included in your usual monthly fee.

But still have a back-up plan. Agreements can change, and you don't really want to be relying on an arrangement that expired the week before you arrived in Greece. For some arcane reason, information on these foreign agreements is often not up-to-date when you call your ISP.

Hotels offering data ports usually are upscale, part of established world-wide chains with more business travelers than tourists. You won't be finding internet access at your average 3-star hotel. Ask if the data port is in your room, or if they are actually offering use of a business center elsewhere in the hotel.

Contrarily, you MAY find limited access at small pensions and even rented rooms. If the owner is online, he or she will usually be happy to grant you access for a small fee. Obviously, technical support expertise will vary in these situations.
