Where is Volos?

Volos is located on the mainland coast of Greece, a little more than half way between Thessaloniki and Athens. If you're driving to Thessaloniki, it's a nice spot to break up your trip.

Volos is a truly Greek city; while it is rarely considered a tourist destination in itself, it offers a number of sightseeing opportunities missed by most visitors to Greece.

Where to Eat in Volos

Volos is known for its ouzeri, usually small cafe-like restaurants serving ouzo and traditional snacks. It's easy to make a cheap, satisfying meal at one of these places. There are also plenty of tavernas, especially along the shore.

Events in Volos

During Navy Week in June, Volos re-enacts the tale of Jason and the Argonauts in a vivid festival.

Yorgos Foudoulis organizes music events in Volos, including one for the flute and another celebrating the guitar.

Don't Miss Seeing in Volos:

Nearby, you can also visit the Ancient City of Pherai which boasts a pond with artifacts visible below the surface. Summer visiting hours are extended until 7pm.

Finally, the Pelion Train operates near Volos and offers visitors the chance to see some beautiful scenery from the perspective of an old-fashioned train.
