And when you do find Wi-fi in Greece, it can be expensive. With few users, the hourly fees are steep and usually double the already sharp costs of using a computer in an internet cafe, which can run 4-6 Euro an hour.
However, there is hope for the traveling laptop computer user who is willing to forgo Wi-Fi in favor of a dial-up Internet connection. Internet access cards can be bought at many peripteros (street kiosks). These cards cost about a Euro an hour and provide a dial-up number to a local service. But remember, if you're using them from a hotel room, you may also be liable for the cost of an extended local call.
Forthnet offers an even better deal - a month's worth of Internet access via a card for just 20 Euro. Staying in a quaint small hotel? The phone lines may not be up to it, and you may have to throw yourself on the mercy of the proprietor to use an office or private line.
