Wi-Fi Access in Greece

Where can you connect in Greece?

Traveling with your laptop? Finding a place to use your wireless internet connection can be a challenge. At the moment, Athens International Airport is offering Wi-Fi access and elsewhere, it's increasingly easy to find.

More and more hotels are offering free Wi-fi, either intentionally or because they've installed it for their own computers. While some hotels require a password and a fee, others permit unrestricted access. These may not be the most secure connections, however, and the signal may not reach all rooms in a given hotel. The staff usually knows where it is likely to work based on past customer complaints - ask for a room which is wi-fi compatible.

There is still hope for the traveling laptop computer user who is willing to forgo Wi-Fi in favor of a dial-up Internet connection. Internet access cards can be bought at many peripteros (street kiosks). These cards cost about a Euro an hour and provide a dial-up number to a local service. But remember, if you're using them from a hotel room, you may also be liable for the cost of an extended local call.

Forthnet offers an even better deal - a month's worth of Internet access via a card for just 20 Euro. Staying in a quaint small hotel? The phone lines may not be up to it, and you may have to throw yourself on the mercy of the proprietor to use an office or private line.
