Hotel Vritomartis on Crete - Nudism-friendly resort

The Hotel Vritomartis is named after the Minoan mermaid known as the "Sweet Maiden", a daughter or alternate form of the potent goddess Diktynna, who is also sometimes represented as a mermaid. It's located on the south coast of Crete in a beautiful secluded area which is still relatively simple to reach by car. I can attest the road is curvy, especially as it finally descends toward the coast in a series of switchbacks, but it's at least well-paved and offers some great views. If you're prone to car-sickness, take precautions prior to the last drop down to the sea.

Filaki Beach near the hotel is the only "official" nude beach on Crete. While the beach is adjacent to the hotel, it's separate and can be visited even if you are not a guest.

This is a naturist hotel - which means it is nude-friendly. Here's how the hotel describes it: "Our resort is a licensed naturist resort and broadly follows the guidelines laid down by the International Naturist Federation: none of the indoor areas of the hotel are naturist whilst all the outside areas are naturist from sunrise to sunset. Naturism is required by the pool and on the beach." By the way, the page on "Hotel Information" shows a beautiful shot of the seaside harbor town of Loutro located a few miles west; this is not where the Vritomartis Hotel is located, but it can be visited easily on a boat excursion or by ferry from Chora Sfakia.
