New discounts for students using public transportation in Athens start May 1st, 2009. If you are under 22 and a student, you can show your school ID and get a 50% discount on metro tickets, trolley and tram tickets, and bus tickets.

To benefit from these discounts, you'll generally have to directly purchase a ticket from a counter at the station or from a periptero (kiosk) near the stop so you can show your student ID.
