A newly-opened choice is the Holiday Inn at the Athens Airport. While it is a free short shuttle ride away, it's closer than most of the other choices and offers a comfortable haven for the tired traveler for less than the Sofitel.
Armonia Hotel. Stated to be "the closest hotel to the new airport" before the Sofitel opened, it's about a half hour trip. It's located near the healing waters of Lake Vouliagmeni. Its sister hotel, not far away, is the Hotel Paradise.
In Rafina, the Hotel Avra is under new management and has been recently renovated and upgraded. It's convenient to the hydrofoils and ferries leaving Rafina, and it's about a 30-minute trip from the airport.
The Astir Palace Hotels are deluxe, expensive, but provide an indulgent retreat. It's a waste for just one night - if you do book here, stay for several and enjoy exploring Attica.
