Where is Athens Greece?

Athens is located along the coast of the Attica region of Greece. Like numbers? Here's the latitude and longitude: 37° 58' N 23° 43' E

Why You Should Go to Athens, Greece:

It's the capital of modern Greece and the enduring symbol of ancient Greek civilization. It's a sometimes chaotic, often messy, but very alive city. If you travel to Greece, it's hard not to go to Athens, if only to change planes or catch a ferry.

Where to Stay in Athens, Greece:

Like traditional luxury? St. George Lycabettus or the Grande Bretagne. Like your lodgings cheap and/or atmospheric? Hotel Plaka.

Consider some of these other Small Hotels in Athens. Just passing through? Look at these Nea Makri hotels near the port of Rafina, or these Hotels Near the New Airport.

Where to Eat in Athens, Greece:

Everybody seems to have at least one organized meal with Greek dancing at a tourist taverna in the Plaka - it's fun and reasonably priced. Your hotel can easily set this up, or go through any tour provider.

Want to eat fish and feel like you're on a Greek island? Head to Piraeus, where restaurants line the port of Microlimano. Encounter one of the ironies of Aegean-embraced Greece: seafood is much more expensive than meat.

And enjoy your own discoveries. Let your nose lead you, or ask for a look at what's cooking in the kitchen. It's hard to find a truly bad meal in food-loving Greece, though finding your own favorite dishes may take some experimenting. Check out Dining Out Greek for the Timid and Fine Dining in Athens for some suggestions.

Don't Miss Seeing in Athens:

You have to see the Acropolis and Parthenon, Cape Sounion, the Plaka, and the National Archaeological Museum, among other museums.

Travel Tip for Athens, Greece:

Taxis are relatively cheap in Athens compared to the rest of Europe - enjoy them. If you call for one rather than hail it, or it's after midnight, expect a surcharge. But even with extra fees, they're still a good deal.
