Since ancient times the Greeks have travelled to new lands. If you're missing Greece, or you'd like to warm up for your trip to Greece, or you need to find a sudden extra souvenir after you've returned from the Greek islands, check out your local "Greektown".

1. Orthodox Churches Around the World

One of the largest Greek communities in the United States, moviegoers got a glimpse of Chicago's Greektown in the Nia Vardalos movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding".

4. Tarpon Springs, Florida

Widely known for its Epiphany celebrations where local youths dive for the cross each year on January 6th, this coast was the first place for large numbers of immigrant Greeks to settle in the United States, many of them seeking a living as sponge divers.

5. Sao Paulo, Brazil

The home of the largest Greek Orthodox Cathedral outside of Greece, a lively Greek-Brazilian community keeps it busy with weddings and other ceremonies.

6. For one Greek American family, the hunt for greensis deeply rooted

The Palos Verdes Peninsula of California has more than just sun and sea - it also has three generations of Panousis women who have kept up the tradition of gathering horta, wild greens, from the roadsides and meadows.
