Home to the monk seal and adjacent to the Sporades Marine Park, a marine wildlife preserve, Alonissos may be the "unknown destination most likely to become known" on this list. It's mildly popular with German and British
tourists, some of whom have purchased older homes on the island. The islands of Peristera, Skantzoura, and Gioura are uninhabited by anything human. Unlike its expensive Sporadic neighbors of Skiathos, Skyros, and Skopelos, Alonissos is still a good value.
