New Year's Eve in Athens, Greece 2007
Once again, the Municipality of Athens, led by Athens Mayor Nikitas Kaklamanis, opens up the New Year in style with free concerts, lots of fireworks, and the chance to rub shoulders with half of Athens at once. Kotzia Square is the focal point this year, and will offer a free convert by Philippos Pliatsikas, originally of the band Pyx Lax. His backing band will be a little different this time - it's the City of Athens Symphony Orchestra. Many of the Christmas themes continue through January 7th, the day after Epiphany, though the child-focused ones will close earlier in the evenings.
Fireworks in Athens
It will be hard to avoid seeing the fireworks, which will go off at midnight at Kotzia Square and there will be additional fireworks launched from Lycabettus Hill.
Hotel Events in Athens
Many hotels have parties and special events planned for New Year's Eve, and every rooftop bar with a view to the fireworks will be jammed. While almost every hotel with the necessary facilties will be offering something, the 5-star hotels dominate this event and many of them have been sold out.
