King George II Hotel

A luxurious retreat in the heart of Athens which rarely disappoints.

The King George II is in the same block as the Grande Bretagne Hotel, and a friendly (?) rivalry helps keep both hotels at the top of their game. The interior of the King George is a luxurious gold and white, and has a fantasy-wedding feeling about it. Recently, they've added the word "Palace" in keeping with other hotels using the term, but in the King George's case, it's justified. The building was a kind of "annex" to the main Palace in its early days, and King George the II, while he didn't live here, did stay as a guest in its early years as a hotel. There's still a Royal (or Presidential) suite that even includes a private pool. While that's out of the reach of most travelers, the more "ordinary" rooms offer deluxe fittings and a good value. Like many older hotels, some of them are a bit on the small side, and the access hallways are narrow.
