Greece: Athens & the Mainland by Deni Bown

Greece: Athens & the Mainland

Guide Rating -
Pros  •  Lavishly illustrated
•  Concise descriptions of major sights
•  Fun to read
Cons  •  Minimum information on hotels, restaurants
•  High quality paper makes this guide heavier than many
•  Photo-friendly glossy paper raises price
The Bottom Line - It's heavy, expensive, -- and well worth the extra weight and price.

Product Description
•  The detailed illustrations of all major attractions are almost indispensable. Cutaways show most sites in a 3-D style.
•  Terrific back-of-the-book pages show you food, money, ATMs, what color a Greek overseas mailbox is.
•  This photo-rich guide is also great for showing everyone back home what they missed.

Guide Review
Greece: Athens and the Mainland
Once you've held the Eyewitness Travel Guide in your hands, it's hard to put it down and pick up another plain-text or sparsely illustrated guidebook ever again. The bird's-eye street maps, the detailed cutaways of all major monuments, and the handy images of food, money, and roadsigns will capture almost every reader.

Not all is perfect in paradise, however - while this guide is a great help in deciding where to go and what to see, the information on hotels and restaurants is sparse and isolated awkwardly in the back of the book. Still, the rest of the material is so useful and well-presented that it offsets this shortcoming.
