This Fall & Winter in Greece - continued

Return to page 1

Y Not 2K on Mykonos? Even if you're late planning your New Year's Extravaganza, you may be in time to ring in the new year on Mykonos. Most of the Greek islands go dormant in the late fall and winter, and the quiet can be just perfect for those wanting to get away from it all. High winds and lower temperatures can make this less than idyllic, but the islands are still beautiful and somewhat lively on the weekends. Mykonos is beginning to promote itself as a late fall and winter destination. If you go, be aware that many shops and restaurants will be shuttered.

Several hotels will be open for New Year's Eve celebrations, and even at this late hour, you can find space to celebrate the new Millenium on Mykonos.

Is trendy Mykonos not quite your style, but you still need to make plans for New Year's 2000? Check out a party being planned on Crete to be held in the traditional village of Vamos. November and December can provide chilly temperatures, and snow at some classic attractions. Delphi does double-duty as a winter ski destination. Skiiing in Greece is still a winter secret, mainly enjoyed by the Greeks themselves. Greek ski resorts offer terrific prices and some underrated slopes and facilities.

Enjoy your fall and winter travels in Greece!
