Fighting the tourist dragon by meeting it head on, Symi has created a wonderful summer festival earning international recognition, a business conference center, and is widening its harbor to accomodate more boat traffic. As with the Mani, visit soon just in case the dragon isn't completely tamed. Usually reached from Rhodes via daily ferry boat (March through November) or hydrofoil (late spring, summer, early fall), though there are ferries from Piraeus twice a week.
