An excellent value with an exceptionally high fun quotient. It's billed as "adventure travel", but it combines fantastic scenery, explorations of ancient sites, and great food with kayaking.

  • Participants spend two nights at Matala, a famous beach town known for its cave-riddled cliffs.
  • Then it's on to the Samaria Gorge region for an intense day of hiking.
  • Next, the small, cosmopolitan village of Loutro is home base for two nights.
  • Then it's on to Ammoudi Beach outside of Plakias, an upscale town offering fine dining and shopping.
  • A long day of sea kayaking ends at the hidden bay of Agia Galini and a night's feasting and dancing.

An excellent value combined with carefully-chosen locations and scenery makes this eight-day, seven-night Level One trip a terrific introduction to the challenges and joys of adventure travel. Participants learn to paddle sea kayaks and have the option of propelling themselves past up to a hundred miles of gorgeous Cretan seacoast, staying at small inns in remote villages, many accessible only by sea. Sightseeing includes stops at Minoan palaces, Byzantine chapels, and Venetian fortresses. One day is spent hiking down Crete's magnificent Samaria Gorge, the longest gorge in Europe.
