Rumors are flying that both Greece and Cyprus may skip the wildly popular Eurovision song contest this year due to the ongoing financial crisis - and the possible mixed blessing of having to underwrite hosting the event next year if they were to win in 2013.
I was in Greece when Helena Paparizou won the contest back in 2005 with "My Number One," and the response that night was ecstatic. But perhaps the idea and name of "Eurovision" is no longer quite so appealing, as Greece has fought to stay in the monetary union.
