When Delta Airlines quietly suspended its New York to Athens service, with no clear intention that they would resume it, it left a huge gap in air travel between the United States and Greece, and I wondered who would step into the breach. Now Qatar Airways has announced that it will begin regular service on the route beginning in summer 2013. While demand is likely to be good on these flights from the beginning, most airlines offer some introductory pricing for the first few months of operation on a new route.
Qatar Airways may be a new name for many U.S.-based travelers to Greece, but it boasts a gleaming modern fleet and was awarded "World's Best Airline" by Skytraxx.
