Eleusis, home of the mysteries of Demeter and Persephone, was as renowned as Delphi in ancient times, and its proximity to Athens made it particularly important as the destination of an annual procession. Yet while almost everyone scrambles to include a visit to Delphi, few make the journey to the site of Eleusis, despite a marked offramp on the Athens highway.
