As feared, this year's Full Moon celebration August 24th may be affected by budget cuts. The security guards at the Acropolis have refused to work that night, citing no to low pay for the extra hours, Greek Reporter is noting.
Normally, dozens of monuments around Greece are open on the night of the full moon in August, allowing visitors the rare chance to explore the monuments by moonlight. Many sites offer free entertainment and other bonuses. While the Acropolis may be closed - last minute negotations could of course change all that - other sites throughout Greece will be open on a case-by-case basis, with some operated by workers volunteering their time. Check locally to find out if the site you'd like to visit is open, as both openings and closures may be at the last minute this year.
