The Greek government has announced a state of emergency for beleaguered Samos Island, once again the vicitm of wildfires. Some resorts have been evacuated as a precaution, eKathimerini reports. Many of the fires which have scorched parts of the island are believed to be the work of arsonists who time their crimes to take advantage of the winds. At least three suspected arsonists are in custody, but that didn't stop fires from breaking out again after a short hiatus.
Readers at the Greece Travel Forum are asking if they should modify their fall trips to Samos. While it's impossible to predict what conditions will be like in the coming months, Samos is one of the larger Greek islands and many places will still be untouched.
