Archaeologists are excited about the test results on an extremely ancient wall found in the Theopetra Cave. According to recent testing, a small wall in the cave dates back about 23,000 years, which would make it the oldest known human-built structure so far.
This follows on another discovery on the island of Crete indicating that very early seafarers reached the island between about 130,000 and 700,000 years ago - potentially rewriting maritime history. Ancient Greece is getting much more ancient lately.
The Theopetra Cave behind the village of Kalambaka and near the monasteries of Meteora briefly opened to visitors in 2009, but is presently closed to the public.
