Epiphany in Greece
January 6th marks the traditional Epiphany celebrations in Greece
In coastal areas, young men dive for an ornamental cross which the priest has thrown in to the waters. In some areas, this task is made easier and a bit safer by placing the cross on a small floating platform adorned with greenery.
After the dive, fishermen and others who use boats bring them to be blessed.
In Greece, the celebration at Piraeus is heavily attended.
In the United States, the best-known observance is at Tarpon Springs in Florida, where this traditional ceremony brings thousands of visitors each year.
