Love the Titanic? Meet the Britannic in Greece

Monday January 5, 2009
Feeling like making a deep exploration of Greece? Plans are underway undersea to offer submersible tours of the wrecked Britannic lying off the coast of the Greek island of Kea, expected to start as early as 2009, though the Britannic Foundation website says it is still in the process of acquiring the necessary submarine to ferry tourists around the wreck.

I've always been fascinated by the ship, not least because one poor nurse named Jessop who survived the sinking of the Titanic also survived the sinking of the Britannic. Oddly enough, of the trio of ships, only the Olympic survived to be eventually scrapped, though it did sustain damage in a collision early in its career (when, even more oddly, Nurse Jessop was on board) - and of course, in Greek mythology, the Olympians did triumph over the Titans.
