"Athens News" News
Thursday October 2, 2008
English-language weekly newspaper and website "Athens News" may cease publication this week if a reader petition and search for new investors by editor John Psaropoulos fails to keep the paper alive. The newspaper was started in 1952 and to date it's been a handy source of information for English-speaking travelers and expatriates in Greece.

Typical Greece. Getting rid of the one decent thing to come out of Athens
I have just returned from 6 months in Greece.
One thing I miss most is buying the Athens
News everyfriday in Varkiza. If I bought a
subscription and had it sent here – would it
help you to stay in business. You have
excellent writers – a well rounded news paper.
No sensationalism – just the news.
The paper is still publishing, at least on its website. The reader petition and international attention has gotten it a reprieve at least for the time being. I’m not sure if it is in print form – sounds like you didn’t see it recently?
It appeared that they got the reprieve but then the news stopped with their Dec 5 web edition. I thought it was due to the riots but it’s been almost two months now.
I just got this from the publisher of the Athens News, which is now offering an email digest in addition to its print edition.
“Many thanks for your comments on the first issue of the email digest.
As some of you noticed, our new email address is athensnews@athensnews.eu – not @athensnews.gr
Many of you enquired about the status of the newspaper’s website, which has not been updated since December 5. As you may know, the Athens News changed ownership in October and we’ve also moved offices. This has led to some complications as regards the website but we hope to resolve the issue shortly and ask for your patience in the meantime.
Of course, the paper edition of the Athens News continues to be published as normal every Friday and is on sale at news stands across Greece and per subscription. We are now offering a 30 percent discount on subscriptions – 52 issues for €89 (you save €41) – within Greece. In addition, new subscribers are entitled to a free gift consisting of ten maps and three books from Road Editions (total value €158.50).
Subscribers receive their Athens News by courier in Athens every Friday by 8.30am and in Thessaloniki by 11am.
