Grease to Greece Car Rally

Wednesday June 25, 2008
Feel like driving from England to Greece this summer? You can go green and go greasy to Greece courtesy of Andy Pag. He is leading a convoy of normally diesel-powered vehicles across Europe, begging for used frying oil along the way. The event starts in Britain on August 16th, 2008 and benefits the British Heart Foundation. They should arrive in Greece two weeks later. Slots are still available and novices are welcome; cars do not need to be specially modified but will do better if they are. Pag previously drove from the UK to Timbucktu using factory-reject chocolate as fuel.

I can see another possible use for cooking oil on Greek roads - using it to lubricate two vehicles trying to pass each other on the narrow high mountain roads. But in that case, olive oil would probably be a better choice.
