Numismatic Museum Reopens

Friday November 9, 2007
Fan of Heinrich Schliemann? Fan of ancient Greek coins? Fan of turn-of-the-last-century architecture? The reopening of the Numistmatic Museum will keep you happy on all fronts. The vast collection of ancient coinage is housed in the beautiful former home of Heinrich Schliemann, the excavator of Troy and, in many senses, the father of archaeology. Although the official opening is still ahead, the museum is now open for visitors at the site on Panepistimou Street in Athens.

Did you know the first coins of the western world were produced in Aegina in 7th century BC, made of silver and showing a turtle. If you are interested in ancient Greek coins, see http://www.fleur-de-coin.com – a really interesting website.
