Decadence at the Athens Airport
Tuesday October 9, 2007
Who would have thought the Eleftherios Venizelos Airport held such decadent delights? I confess, I'm one of those people who plop down in the well-padded black-leather automatic massage chairs and never think of dropping in a 2 Euro coin for what I thought would be a cheesy experience - but then watching a young Greek in the chair next to me aroused my -um- curiosity when he seemed to be having an ecstatic experience as the chair grabbed his legs, tilted back, and began vigorously pummeling his spine and shoulders. 2 Euros later and I was a convert. They're located in the shopping area near the entrance to the "B" Gates. Supposedly the squeezing on the calves can also help offset flight bloat, but trust me, you'll enjoy this one anyway. You may also encounter Dionysos in another form at the airport - the wine and food shop often offers free samples of premium liquors, an illegal practice in the United States.
