Fast Facts about Cyprus

Tuesday July 18, 2006
Take a quick look at the island nation of Cyprus, the welcome destination for thousands of evacuees leaving Lebanon. Is it part of Greece? No, but it has strong cultural ties to Greece and has long been believed to be the island where the goddess Aphrodite came ashore in a cloud of seafoam.

The port of Larnaca on the south-eastern coast of Cyprus is preparing to receive a flood of refugees arriving either by helicopter or by cruise ships and ferry boats. Standard tourism on Cyprus is likely to be interrupted for weeks to come; if you have travel plans for Cyprus in place, check with your providers.
