Greece in May
Monday May 1, 2006
Look closely if you're in Greece this May - that may be me over at that taverna table.
May is my favorite month in Greece, with September a close second. The weather is improving, the waters are just beginning to warm up, prices are low and the crowds are light. Yet in many places the hills are still green, the wildflowers are still, well, going wild and the Greeks are looking forward to all of the tourists arriving - unlike in Fall, when, after six months of guests, they do start to look forward to them leaving.
But hey, we're not tourists, are we? Heck no - we're travelers and wanderers, yearning for our own Ithaca - or maybe just a tasty souvlaki.
