Greece Selects Eurovision Song Entry
Monday March 13, 2006
Greece, last year's winner of the Eurovision song contest, is making the final selection of its song for this year's competition. As the host country, all eyes are on Greece to hear what its choice will be. The song will be performed by Anna Vissi, a popular singer in Greece.
While the Eurovision song contest receives almost no attention in the U.S. and the rest of the world, it is a huge event for Europe, a kind of musical Olympic Games with extensive preparations and local competitions leading up to the final showdown.
In 2005, Helena Paparizou won the Eurovision contest with her invigorating English-language "My Number One" in a performance that blended traditional Greek dancing with an infectious beat.
