Not Much Choice on Choosing Your Cruise

Thursday December 29, 2005
If you're traveling in Greece on a package tour, one of the highlights is a short cruise of the Greek islands lasting 3,4, or 7 days.

While most package providers subtly try to pretend that the ships used are their own, they actually belong to one of a mere two companies - Louis Cruise Lines or Golden Star Cruises (formerly Golden Sun). Golden Star offers one ship, the Aegean I, for 3- and 4-day cruises in the Aegean. Louis Cruise Lines has filled the vacancy left by the bankruptcy of Royal Olympic/Olympia Cruises, and offers 3-, 4-, and 7-day cruises on several ships, usually the Perla and the Calypso. Many larger cruise lines also serve the Greek islands, but those lines and their ships are rarely included in the cheap package tours.
