United States Gives Greece Top Airport Security Rating

Monday July 4, 2005
The US Ambassador to Greece, Charles Ries, informed the Greek government that the US Federal Aviation Adminstration (FAA) security rating for Athens International Airport has been upgraded to the top level, recognizing Greece's success in the launching of the (relatively) new airport at Spata.

What's the impact on the average traveler to Greece? Flights leaving Greece may be subject to fewer extra searches behind-the-scenes and other requirements imposed by the US on flights to America. It may also encourage more US airlines to investigate the feasibility of flying directly to Athens, which could increase competition and result in lower prices for US-Greece flights.
