Hidden Secrets of The Athens Metro

Tuesday April 26, 2005
The Athens Metro has made getting into, around, and out of Athens much easier and cheaper than ever before. Now that it reaches to the airport at Spata, travelers have a fast and easy alternative to the airport buses and taxis.

If you are staying in Athens for an extended period of time, you may want to consider purchasing a daily, weekly, or monthly pass covering the buses, the trolleys, and the Metro. Scroll way down on this official Athens Metro page to find out about some of the money-saving tickets available but be aware that they usually don't cover the Metro routes to and from the airport. That's a separate 6 Euro ticket.

Taking the Metro from the airport? Even small groups of two or three traveling together can qualify for a discount of a Euro off the usual ticket price.

Note: The Athens Metro to and from the airport uses buses for part of the route between February 2009 to at least August 2009 while additional stations are constructed.
