Marching Forth on March First

Tuesday March 1, 2005
Today's the big day for Ivan van Driessche as he embarks on a 50-Day Circumambulation of Crete, raising both money and awareness for the plight of abandoned and injured animals on Crete.

If you're on Crete between now and April 20th, you can still join him for a day or a week of walking. A donation of a Euro a kilometer for the period you walk gets you his company and expert guidance, and all proceeds go to benefit The Haven operated by the Cretan Animal Welfare Group.

The ancient Minoans have a tale of a bronze giant named Talos who also walked all around the island, carrying with him the tablets engraved with the laws that Minos received from Dictynna or Zeus. I suspect that Ivan will be pretty "bronze" by the end of his journey as well.
