Paralympic Games Begin

Saturday September 18, 2004
Traveling in Greece right now? Don't miss the pageantry and fascinating sporting events at the Paralympic Games. These highly-trained, competitive athletes are taking over the Olympic venues for their own Games. It's a great way to check out the new sport facilities while watching some terrific competitions and supporting some amazing sportsmen and sportswomen.

Not everyone realizes this is the second-largest sporting event in the world, involving almost 4000 athletes from 136 countries, covered by a media force of 2500. The Paralympic Games have their own dramatic opening and closing ceremonies. If you missed the glittering Olympic Games, this can make up for it.

I had the pleasure of talking with some of the members of the US Track and Field team on my way to Athens last month. I wish them and all of the other athletes a great experience in the "new" Athens!
